OB Van TV100 Upgrade
External transmission unit upgrade for digital HD/4K operation
Comart completed the upgrade and modernization project of the External Broadcasting Unit, OB Van, of the Municipal Television of Thessaloniki – TV100. The goal was to modernize the unit for full digital operation with HD/4K specifications.
The vehicle will be used to cover the external broadcasts of the DEPTHE in television productions such as sports, artistic, theatrical and musical programs. Also, political events, coverage of meetings of the Municipality's Municipal Council and broadcasts of cultural interest.
Installation of OB Van infrastructure and television systems
Comart's specialized technicians initially dismantled the equipment and old installations inside the OB Van. This was followed by its design, in its new form in photorealistic 3D visualization, to agree on the details of the new layout of the workstations and equipment, as well as the ergonomics of the reconstructed unit.
Then they proceeded to configure and reconstruct the spaces, install infrastructure, cabling, bases, scaffolding and workstations. Finally, the television equipment was installed and configured, such as control consoles, monitoring screens, cameras, video and audio mixing desks, camera adjustment and management system, video and audio signal splitter, etc.
Driver's cabin
Installation of a video, audio and intercom reception terminal in the passenger seat for the use of the cabin as a sound booth.
Production cabin
Installation of special, ecological sound-absorbing material internally and soundproofing of equipment scaffolding. Suitable configuration for the installation of 43” TV monitors for monitoring the cameras and the program.
Installation of a central storage system and playout server.
Structured network cabling with terminals in the mixed image, computer area.
Sound engineer's booth
Installation of sound-absorbing material in the sound engineer's cabin. Installation of a sound mixing desk and connection with a breakout box.
Sound installation for connection to the driver's cabin, image production and adjustment.
Image adjustment
Installation of image adjustment equipment (remote camera control systems, camera control terminals, monitoring screens).
Installation of television equipment in a rack
Ethernet and Fiber network cabling.
Cabling of the equipment in the breakout box with terminals on the outside of the production cabin with hybrid fiber optic connectors.
Installation of an uninterruptible power supply and connection infrastructure with an H/Z generator.
Installation of a central and secondary image mixing bank, playout server for autonomous television signal broadcasting and HD graphics system.
OB Van jobs
The VAN has workstations for: Direction, image mixing, image adjustment, video playout, graphics, sound engineering as well as two workstations for general use. In addition, the driver's cabin has the possibility of two journalists working to cover events.
