Facebook Live streaming with Blackmagic Design. Discover how you can live stream high-quality video to Facebook with one simple device video capture by Blackmagic Design and with the software Open Broadcaster Software (OBS). The Facebook Live is rapidly spreading as a means of live video broadcasting because it has the ability to reach millions of viewers around the world. In addition to simple streaming on Facebook Live, a feature that anyone with a smartphone can now have, there is often a need for even better image quality. We often see high-quality material from multi-camera productions being broadcast over the internet.
High quality Blackmagic Video
In cases where we have high demands on image quality, we can easily achieve them using an affordable video capture device from Blackmagic Design, such as the Blackmagic Design DeckLink or Ultra Studio along with the free, open source software, OBS Studio (Open Broadcaster Software). OBS Studio connects any Pro or consumer camera with SDI, HDMI or analog outputs on the device video capture by Blackmagic Design for high quality image and sound.
Upon connection, the user will immediately have a preview of the image on their computer. The user should also take into account that the higher the image quality, the better the streaming quality. Depending on the image format (SD/HD/4K format) Blackmagic Design's corresponding video capture devices are also required. Also, the higher the format, the more processing power is required from the PC.
Facebook live streaming in a few clicks
To broadcast live image/audio on Facebook, only a few simple steps are required:
First, Facebook Live must be selected from the OBS streaming settings. There a “streamkey” will be required which the user will find through the Facebook in the section Publishing Tools. By selecting “Videos” from the menu on the left, we then select the “Live” button and copy the streamkey that we find in the last field in the dialog window that will appear titled Create live video to the relevant field in OBS.
Finally, we select the Start Streaming button in OBS, enter a title for the Live event in the Facebook dialog box and select “Go Live”.
This simple process enables professionals and ordinary users with a very affordable Blackmagic Design device combined with free software to have access to millions of viewers with high quality video material.
