Follow these best practices when exchanging metadata between Cinema Tools and Final Cut Pro.
Programs
Final Cut Pro, Cinema Tools
Avoid exporting a Batch List from Final Cut Pro for import into Cinema Tools, in order to create a Cinema Tools database.
This method only works when Final Cut Pro uses the English language and provides only minimal information. Instead, use the “Synchronize with Cinema Tools” command in the Tools menu of Final Cut Pro. The options then are to add the selected clips to an existing Cinema Tools database or to create a new database. This method works with all supported languages and ensures that all available information is processed correctly.
Avoid exporting a Batch Capture list from Cinema Tools with the intention of importing it into Final Cut Pro.
This method works if you are using English as your system language and provides only minimal information. Instead, use the XML Batch List command in the Cinema Tools Export menu. In addition to working with all supported languages, an XML batch list also has the advantage of including additional information for each clip imported into Final Cut Pro.
You can also import Telecine Log files directly into Final Cut Pro and avoid the need to export an XML Batch List from Cinema Tools.
Add clips from the Final Cut Pro Browser to a Cinema Tools database using one of the following methods:
- Select the clips from the Final Cut Pro Browser, then choose Tools > Synchronize with Cinema Tools.
- Select the clips from the Final Cut Pro Browser, then choose File > Export > Batch List to create a text file with specified intervals. You can then import this file into a Cinema Tools database by choosing File > Import > Final Cut Pro Batch List.
Note: You should avoid the latter method, which uses batch lists with specified intervals, because these batch lists do not contain all the metadata that XML batch lists contain. Cinema Tools only supports Final Cut Pro batch lists in English. Always use the "Synchronize with Cinema Tools" command instead of a Final Cut Pro batch list with specified intervals.
Create a list of clips for digitization in Final Cut Pro based on a Cinema Tools database, using one of the following methods:
- In Final Cut Pro, select File > Import > Cinema Tools Telecine Log.
- In Cinema Tools, select File > Import > Telecine Log to add the clips to a database, and then choose File > Export > XML Batch List to create an XML list of clips that you can import into Final Cut Pro, selecting File > Import > XML.
- In Cinema Tools, select File > Import > Telecine Log to add the clips to a database and then select File > Export > Batch Capture to create a list of clips with specified intervals that you can import into Final Cut Pro, selecting File > Import > Batch List.
Note: You should avoid the latter method, which uses batch lists with specified intervals, because these batch lists do not contain all the metadata that XML batch lists contain. Cinema Tools supports Final Cut Pro batch lists in English only. Using an XML Batch List is always preferable to using a Final Cut Pro batch list with specified intervals.
