When you open an earlier version of Motion project in Motion 4, your project may not display as expected.

Motion 4.0

Solution

Motion 4 works with new color models to optimize image quality for viewing on TV and online media. This new color model has a different gamma value of 1/2.2, while previous versions of Motion operated with a gamma correction value of 1/1.8. As a result, the project you open that was created in an earlier version of Motion may not display as expected.

Areas that may be affected include composite modes (sometimes called blending modes), gradients, blurs, and tints applied to the imported file. If this happens, it can often be fixed by applying a gamma filter of 1.22 to the file or object before processing and another gamma filter of 0.82 to the file after processing.

Cutting and pasting shapes, gradients, and other objects from an earlier version of Motion project into a new project may result in a poor value match in the Inspector, as these objects will be "mixed" with the earlier version's color model .

If exact backward compatibility is necessary, export the project to a file from the version of Motion that the project was created in. The resulting exported file can be imported into Motion 4 for further processing.
