Professional HD Recorder
10-bit 4:2:2 ProRes and DNxHD recording. Video Assist records in 10-bit 4:2:2 quality, giving you exceptional color, detail, and clarity in your footage. Files are stored on low-cost SD cards that are available in ProRes HQ or DNxHD format so you can edit them right away without having to convert files to other formats. Recording can be started automatically via the start/stop button without distracting you from the shoot
Better Monitoring
Ultra-bright and clear HD display. The Blackmagic Design Video Assist features a bright 5-inch 1920 x 1080 resolution display so you don't have to carry around extra on-set monitors. Attach it to cameras as a large screen for the crew, use it for compositing the shot or for review. The display has a wide 135-degree viewing angle so your collaborators can watch it. It also has auto rotate so that the connection cables are always on the right side and don't get in the way. It allows SD and HD monitoring via 6G-SDI connection and even Ultra HD recording.
User-friendly Touchscreen interface
The built-in monitor is also an interactive touchscreen to adjust all functions and parameters. With “Swipe Gestures” you can display camera information, change settings and video and audio levels. It also features a “Heads Up Display”, a semi-transparent layer that allows you to adjust recording formats, frame rate, histogram, audio meters, timecode and more without distracting you from shooting!
Portable “All in One” design
Designed for durability and portability, the Blackmagic Design Video Assist is small in size yet features a 5-inch 1920 x 1080 LCD touchscreen. It also features a high speed SD recorder and space for two hot-swappable rechargeable batteries so you can shoot without interruption. You can use the special points to attach it to your camera or the built-in stand for tabletop mounting. It's so small it fits in the palm of your hand.
Video, Audio and Power Connections
The compact body of the Video Assist includes HDMI and 6G-SDI inputs so you can use it with almost any video camera or DSLR. The loop through output allows monitoring on larger HD broadcast monitors or HDMI projectors. It has a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack for both indoor and studio shooting and 12V power supply for continuous operation. For outdoor shooting there are two LP-E6 battery slots for long battery life.
Economical and fast storage on SD cards
The built-in recorder accepts SD memory cards that allow recording at up to 60 frames per second in 1080 HD resolution. With today's cost of SD cards you will need less than 1€ per GB. With SD which you find everywhere you can get 3 hours of 1080p24 ProRes HQ recording on a 256GB card, so you will avoid expensive storage media such as XDCAM, P2 and SxS. The SD cards can then be loaded directly into your computer to avoid additional card readers etc.
