Blackmagic Design today announced the new UltraStudio Express 3G series, bringing high-speed USB4 connectivity to compact capture and playback devices for professional broadcast, streaming and post production workflows. The new series replaces the previous UltraStudio 3G models, offering even greater compatibility with modern computers and more practical use in mobile or desktop setups.
In an era where more and more laptops and workstations rely on USB4 and Thunderbolt 4, the new UltraStudio Express 3G series comes to fill a very real need: reliable SDI and HDMI video connection to modern systems, without large equipment and without complicated installation.
Two models for two basic needs

The UltraStudio Express Monitor 3G is the solution for playback and monitoring via 3G-SDI and HDMI. It is aimed at editors, colorists and post production users who need reliable image output to broadcast monitors, HDMI displays, projectors or other display devices.
The UltraStudio Express Recorder 3G is the solution for capturing from 3G-SDI and HDMI sources. It is ideal for ingesting from cameras, switchers, playback devices or other professional video sources, in workflows that require a stable and high-quality signal input to the computer.
USB4 for greater compatibility with modern systems
The move to USB4 is the most important element of the new series. The new UltraStudio Express 3G devices are compatible with Mac, Windows and Linux computers that have USB4 or Thunderbolt 4 connections, giving greater flexibility to users working with different operating systems and modern laptops.
This is especially important for professionals working in diverse environments: post production suites, live streaming setups, educational studios, corporate video teams or mobile production kits. With a small and portable interface, the user can add professional SDI or HDMI capture/playback to their system without the need for a PCIe card or bulky external hardware.
