Blackmagic Design is further expanding its live production ecosystem with Fairlight Live, a new software-based live audio mixing solution aimed at broadcasters, studios, live events, podcasts and complex productions with increased demands for routing, monitoring and audio control. Unlike traditional hardware-only consoles, Fairlight Live is based on a software architecture, which allows it to support modern workflows such as SMPTE-2110, spatial audio and full redundancy.
From small studios to large live productions
One of the most important aspects of Fairlight Live is its flexibility. Blackmagic Design presents it as a solution that can start from a laptop and scale up to much more complex production environments, with support for hundreds or even thousands of audio channels, depending on the system. This means that the same environment can serve everything from video podcasts and webcasts to sports broadcasts and multi-channel live productions with commentary, crowd mics, IFB and talkback.
Tight integration with the Blackmagic Design ecosystem
For Comart’s audience, perhaps the most important point is that Fairlight Live is not presented as a stand-alone product, but as part of a broader Blackmagic workflow. The platform supports standard computer audio as well as USB audio from ATEM live production switchers, providing a very clean bridge between video switching and live audio control. It also supports built-in effects, cue players, snapshots, talkback busses and third-party plug-ins, making it particularly attractive to professionals who want greater flexibility without leaving the Blackmagic environment.
Hands-on control with the new Fairlight Live Audio Panels
Along with the software, Blackmagic Design also introduced the new Fairlight Live Audio Panels, which offer more direct and practical control over the live mix. The 10 and 20 motorized fader versions feature touchscreen displays and controls for layers, bus, matrix, aux, VCA, sub-masters and talkback, with full integration with Fairlight Live. This is especially important for production teams who need tactile control and quick access to critical functions during a live event or broadcast.
