LaCie introduces the new 8big Pro5, an 8-bay RAID storage system with Thunderbolt 5, designed for creators and professionals working with demanding post production workflows, such as 8K video, large RAW files and complex project transfers. The 32TB model is available with an 8 x 4TB HDD configuration and is aimed at editors, production teams and studios who need a combination of capacity, speed and reliability.
Designed for modern creative environments
The LaCie 8big Pro5 is not just about storage, but about a more complete workflow for professional productions. According to LaCie and the first product presentations, the series is aimed at creators who need storage for multi-stream 4K/8K video, large image libraries, and production environments with increased demands on bandwidth and data security.
Built around eight hot-swappable drive bays, the system offers hardware RAID and comes preconfigured in RAID 5, with the ability to configure RAID 0, 1, 6, 10, 50, 60 and JBOD. This gives teams greater flexibility to balance performance, capacity and redundancy, depending on the needs of each production.
Thunderbolt 5 connectivity and high transfer speeds
One of the most important features of the new 8big Pro5 is of course the transition to Thunderbolt 5. The device features three Thunderbolt 5 ports and one USB-C 3.2 Gen 2x2 port, allowing connection to storage devices, displays and other peripherals, while the main connection to the host can offer up to 140W of power delivery. At the same time, there is also backward compatibility with Thunderbolt 4 and Thunderbolt 3, which is especially useful for professionals who are gradually upgrading their setup.
In terms of performance, the 8big Pro5 promises transfers of up to 2800 MB/s in RAID 0 and up to 2500 MB/s in RAID 5, performance that clearly places it in workflows where RAW video editing, large ingest jobs and fast backups are key to daily production.
Greater flexibility for teams, studios and archives
LaCie’s new offering is clearly aimed at those who need storage that can scale to the scale of a modern studio or a demanding post pipeline. In addition to the 32TB model, the 8big Pro5 series is also available in larger versions, reaching up to 256TB, thus offering more options for production teams, shared archives and demanding content libraries.
At the same time, the system comes with a Thunderbolt 5 cable, Toolkit software, a 2-month Adobe Creative Cloud Pro subscription, as well as a 5-year limited warranty with Rescue Data Recovery Services, elements that further enhance its professional character.
